Auto racing or in other terms such as automobile racing, car racing, and motor racing is a motorsports extravaganza that showcases a wide array of cars from all brands racing one another for the ultimate goal of reaching the finish line first. Racing has a rich heritage. Come and let’s take a bit of a peep.
Before cars entered the racing scene, it was dominated by the so-called horse powers as vehicles that are drawn by this animal are the ones being utilized. It was the time when petrol was discovered to be a good fuel for automobiles that auto racing came into being. The first ever organized race was headed by Monsieur Fossier of the Paris publication and it hit the streets on April 28, 1887. The two-kilometer contest from Neuilly Bridge winding up to Bois de Boulogne was won by Georges Bouton for the reason that he was actually the only participant that showed up for the competition. It was only on the 22nd of July 1984 that a real contest pushed through. Panhard et Levassor was declared the winner.
France was considered a pioneer in the auto construction and racing industry that is why ACF, a French automobile club constantly spearheaded quite a number of international races that took place from Paris or through a connecting race with another major European city that then will commence in Paris. The line of successful races took a tragic halt when Marcel Renault suffered a grave accident during the Paris-Madrid contest in 1903. Fatalities totalling to nine people forced the French authorities to prohibit open-road racing such as that in Bordeaux.
The arrival of the 1930s paved the way for the entry of pure racers into the racing stage which bumped aside the more common actors in high-priced road cars. Manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Delahaye, Bugatti, Delage, and Auto Union took the initiative to provide a brand new line of cars boasting of engines that are packed with 450 kW or 612 hp and regulated by numerous stages of supercharging. During the period of 1934 up to 1936, maximum weight that was allowed came at 750 kg which contradicted the standard racing regulations. The usage of aluminium alloys to facilitate weight reduction became a common trade. Mercedes showed flexibility by removing the paints on its cars to coincide with the weight limitation policy thus giving way for the creation of Silver Arrows.
All throughout the existence of the auto racing industry various categories for the races have been developed. These categories include single-seater racing, touring car racing, production car racing, one-make racing, stock car racing, rallying, targa racing, drag racing, sports car racing, off-road racing, kart racing, and historical racing. For the safety of the participants and the regulation of the different racing events, flags have been used to signify the status of the current track and to give special instructions to the competing individuals.
Race fans can expect a lot more from the auto racing industry as at present it is the most-watched and anticipated racing form on the planet. Due to technology and the drive of every car driver and constructor to give the best show it is a sure fire thing that the race for supremacy is far from over.
